Women need to be involved in the idea of peace
Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations (UN), Miguel Berger, underscoring the need for the involvement of women in the idea of peace is necessary "for a lasting peace in a sustainable manner".
The statement was issued in a public debate at the UN Security Council on women's role in realizing peace and security, at UN Headquarters, New York, Friday(Saturday pm).
"Involving women in the idea of peace instead of generous actions, we view this asa key condition for any sustainable and lasting peace," said Berger.
He replied, "The participation of women will strengthen the ability to resolve conflictsand build security and justice systems that protect human rights as a whole."
"However, we still face a gap between komiten repeatedly presented and the situation on the ground. Women remain underrepresented in peace negotiationsand they are often marginalized in efforts to build sustainable peace," he said.
He stated, "It is important to keep fighting for more women in the front position, alsoat the United Nations, and gave women a voice during all stages of the peace process."
"There is a clear relationship between women's participation at an early stage of preventive diplomacy, efforts to bring peace or peace-building and their presence in the mechanism of implementation," he said.
